I tried to get the Doctors to discharge Rory to the Apartment today but they wouldn't.  Rory's white blood count has dropped to 0.28 from 0.48 yesterday so they remain concerned about the high risk of infection because his immune system isn't functioning.  The have said he needs to carry on with the antibiotics, isolation and monitoring.  They are reviewing his status on a daily basis.  I'm not sure why his white blood count has dropped.  It may be because he has a runny nose and a slight cough.  His platelets have also dropped since yesterday to 24, so he will likely need a transfusion tomorrow.  Rory was awake, washed and dressed early this morning, as he was looking forward to doing something with his Nana and Poppa.  He was upset about having to stay on the ward.

The highlight of his day was the arrival of Nana and Poppa Honnor this morning with a giant green Tasmanian devil.  Poppa won $700 on a 1 cent poker machine in Las Vegas in August and part of the prize was a giant soft toy (there were several hanging from the roof).  He and Nana chose the green Tas for Rory, and it's a fairly good match in personality.  It has flown half way across the world to Rory, and he was thrilled with it.  He has spent quite a bit of time playing with it.  It is almost bigger than he is, certainly wider.

It has been a quiet day.  Poppa, Sean and Sam spent a couple of hours at the Auckland Museum this afternoon, but we have mostly been keeping Rory company, reading stories, playing games, drawing and watching tv.  We have had a visit from Amy, the Nutritionist, to discuss how to manage Rory's hydration while he is out of the ward.
