A common cold

Timber boards Mar 2022

In 2022 there’s no such thing as a common cold.  At the start of the  week I had a sore throat, headache and fatigue for three days.  I was also a close contact of a person who tested positive for Omicron on Tuesday.  I was anxious to the point of paranoid that I had caught it.  I had two negative RATs and a PCR to be sure.  Thankfully all tests came back negative.  I was fairly non-functional on Thursday so had to take sick leave which is unlike me.  It was terrible timing as Grannie and Grandad Gardiner came to Taranaki for work and a visit.  Sean and Grandad escaped for two days hunting but the boys and I didn’t get to spend any time with Grannie.  We had to keep Grandad at arms-length when he returned for fear of infecting him.  This morning Colt woke up feeling lousy.  He had a sore throat yesterday and has a runny nose today.  He was very resistant to having a RAT test but it was necessary.  At this stage he is negative.

Unfortunately we had to postpone Rory’s dental appointment at the hospital.  Sean had to take him for a blood test as a marker for kidney function in his last blood test was a bit high.

Rory has been busy in the community.  He and Peter are making beautiful serving and chopping boards from strips of recycled native timber fused together, shaped and with handles added.  He intends to sell some for pocket money.  I am tempted to keep them all!
