A going on

New Years group 2021

‘Year’s end is neither an end nor a beginning but a going on’ (Hal Borland)

It is now day three of 2022 and we are going on.  Going on as we always have, filling our days with diversity, seeking new challenges and living our best lives.  2021 was not a dark or difficult year for our family compared to other years we have endured.  To our relief the results of four scans showed Rory remains NED (no evidence of disease/cancer).  He is in as good a health as could be hoped for.  We lived 12 months in our own home, Rory and Colt completed a full year at school (with a couple of breaks for lockdowns) and Sam and Caitlyn brought their first home.  All four of the boys grandparents are with us and Sean and I were employed in meaningful jobs with a supportive employer.  Covid19 remains a threat to Rory’s life and that of his grandparents.  However, living through the pandemic only requires minor variations to how we have lived for the last 11 years, since Rory’s first cancer diagnosis.  We isolate from at risk situations, wash and clean to excess, remain in a state of alert and prepare for all medical eventualities.

We haven’t strayed far from home since Christmas, preferring to avoid the crowds to reduce the risk to Rory.  We have been strawberry picking, walked the beach at Parininihi (Whitecliffs), swum at the coast, the river and our local pool and visited family and close friends.

We would like to wish everyone who has supported Rory and our family, and those who continue to follow his journey, good health, love, laughter and adventure for 2022.
