Another methotrexate dose completed

We are home.  The dose of methotrexate has been completed.  There are now two left to be completed until the end of the MAP chemotherapy protocol.  Rory is tired, pale and hairless but enduring treatment as well as can be expected at this late stage.

Rory’s methotrexate level at 96 hours (Friday afternoon) was 0.1 so hyper-hydration continued.  Rory also continued to receive furosemide regularly to wring him out.  Rory’s methotrexate level at 120 hours (Saturday afternoon) was 0.07.  This was still 0.02 above the target but the doctors were willing to discharge him provided he drank a lot and took oral leucovorin to protect his kidneys for 24 hours.  We made a spur of the moment decision to drive home on Saturday.  We have never driven home later in the day but the miles seemed to pass by quickly under the car and we were home before 10pm, happy to fall into our own beds.

Thank you to our neighbours Bryan and Christina for looking after things at home when we are not there.
