April in Aotearoa

Taranaki maunga Apr 2023

Three things symbolise April; Easter, feijoas, and school holidays.  This year we dialled Easter right back as the only person who loves chocolate in our household is Sean.  Colt, didn’t miss out as the youngest, he was lucky to be included in an Easter egg hunt at his friend Jai’s.  It is a bit weird eating feijoas and not being able to taste them, but I am still doing my best to consume plenty during the short season.  Rory enjoys feijoas stewed so he and Jo cooked a bucket which is almost gone.  Working full time in the school holidays is a mental challenge.  There is no school for Colt and WITT stops for Rory.  This means Colt also needs care and Rory and Tash are at a bit of a loose end a couple of afternoons a week.  Sean still needs to work a couple of days a week so the household requires an elevated level of organising!  We have plugged the gaps with movies, walks, a visit from ACC physio Josh, some op shopping.  Colt and Sean got their flu jabs, and Sean got a Covid19 booster.  Now he and Rory have had the booster and Colt isn’t eligible until he is 16.  I have to wait until six months after recovery.  After having Covid19 I feel some sense of relief Rory has an extra layer of protection.
