CT scan - waiting game

Rory has been back in the CT scanner. Over a year has passed since his last CT. Rory went into remission for Osteosarcoma of the lower jaw in July 2020. He was required to have an annual CT scan (jaw, neck and chest) for five years to detect any reoccurrence. There is a higher risk of relapse in the first five years. Rory is a seasoned veteran of scans with an IV line to deliver dye to accentuate the images. We are now playing the waiting game for the results. Note: they did take off his cochlear implants.
For a month Rory has been spending time on a Monday at Atawhai Trust. He is really enjoying the social aspect and new activities. Unfortunately the sessions at NP Men Shed have reduced for a variety of reasons.
Rory has completed a rehabilitation review with OT Dianne and Physio Josh. It is a priority that Rory remains as physically active as possible, and we are proactively addressing the pain in his back. However, between gym sessions, pilates, physiotherapy and rongoa massage the schedule had become a bit unwieldy. We have made some adjustments to the number and frequency of sessions, and decided not to introduce acupuncture for now.
We have been looking into more regular weekend support care, which requires a reduced level of management, so I can get better respite. My time in the wild has dwindled to almost nothing. I enquired with organisation Geneva Healthcare but they stood us up on two occasions and we have experienced poor communication. It has been very disappointing. Unfortunately I will have to go back to the drawing board.
Happy Fathers Day Sean – we love you to the moon and back! It was nice to get a stretch on NP Coastal walkway as a family in spite of the weather!
