Port Taranaki Rory Sean Nov 2021

Now I am working full time I am not party to the minute details of the boys lives.  Sean is appreciating a greater level of exposure and some of the activities I had grown to take for granted.  On Thursday he and Rory enjoyed a fish and chip lunch at Catch and Co and a walk on the breakwater at Port Taranaki.  Sean took Rory to the next two immunisations in his schedule post chemotherapy.  They have almost been completed.  Last week Rory and Peter made a lovely recycled timber wine carrier at the Men’s Shed.  I thought I would share the photos with a few people and see if there was any interest in sales for pocket money for Rory.  They were a little too popular and orders snowballed.  Rory and Peter will be very busy for the next three weeks!

We have been grappling with the issue of cyber safety now Rory is an adult.  Apps like Whats App, Facebook and Instagram bring predators into our home.  They are trying to exploit Rory because he is a teenage male with a mild intellectual disability.  Rory has a low threshold for impulse control and low frustration tolerance.  This results in him indulging in risky and potentially damaging behaviour.  We have had to put strict rules in place.

Sean and I are attending couples counselling.  We thought it was timely in anticipation of a change in our work/life situation.  We have had four sessions.  Under pressure we both fall back to extreme versions of ourselves.  This results in a disconnect, a lack of consideration and conflict.  The counselling has given us a greater understanding of ourselves.  We are trying to change the things which don’t work and appreciate each other more.
