‘Our kaupapa – straight up, excellence and kind’. This month we met Stacey from EmpowerYou https://www.empoweryoucare.co.nz/about who we had seen featured on Good Sorts on TV1 https://taranakimediaarchive.co.nz/collection/stacey-te-awa-empoweryou-omata-good-sort-2025-video/ . In spite of the shitty hand she has been dealt Stacey refuses to accept less. She founded a business providing quality support carers for those with challenges. Her kaupapa resonates with me. It feels like we have finally found a solution to our need for regular respite care in the weekends. This will give Sean and I a break from the demands and constraints of care for Rory and make every other weekend more stimulating and interesting for him. Our first trial starts tomorrow. The month has passed by as ‘normal’ for Rory, a mix of community activities and therapy sessions. The highlight for him was getting a new Dragonball Z tattoo to add to his collection, and celebrating Nana Honnor’s 79th birthday. He took her a cup cake with a candle on the day and we went out for a family dinner which was nice. A big thank you to cousin Arron at Copy Centre New Plymouth who has designed and printed Rory’s Christmas cards again this year.
