In memory of Poppa

Poppa and Rory on the rock chair at Tapuae

One year ago on Monday (9th June) Poppa Honnor passed away.  His passing left a hole in our family and we miss him.  Sometimes when we talk about him we forget he is gone.  It will be a sad day.  Poppa and Nana had been married for over 50 years so for Nana it was a profound loss.  While she was grieving she had to cope with the significant challenges of learning to live alone.  She has been very brave and has managed to find a new normal, although she misses him terribly.  We are going to be with her on Monday.

Rory has healed well from the cochlear implant surgery and has resumed his normal weekly programme.  The wet weather has unfortunately made it unsuitable to volunteer at Doggy Day care which is good therapy for him.  He loves dogs.  To pass the time he has been building lego and on Friday had a hot towel shave at Jet Charm Barbers and they tidied the moustache he insists on keeping.  Rory has spent two Fridays with potential new Support Carer Ailie and it has gone well.  She is an energetic person and he has enjoyed her company.  Unfortunately he continues to become increasingly unsteady on his feet and has had a couple of falls at home.  He has also had a couple of choking incidents during lunch while out with Shaun.  We are all keeping a much closer eye on him, ready to respond if necessary.
