Parenting teenagers

Sold 20 Ngahere Street Inglewood

Parenting teenagers is not for the faint hearted.  It is challenging, emotionally demanding and at times downright scary.  Twice this month Sean and I have felt fear, shock and sadness concerning Colt.  Firstly he received a knee injury as a result of a collision during a football game.  Sean had to carry him off the field in pain.  An x-ray at A&E showed nothing was broken and he was sent home with a brace and crutches.  Then, earlier this week, Colt was in a car accident with a bunch of his friends with a restricted driver.  They hit a power pole with force.  They were incredibly lucky to walk away with only minor injuries.  It was a huge scare for the boys and all the families.  We are very grateful for their survival.  A car wreck is a harrowing way to learn about road safety and making smart decisions.

On the 3rd of July we sold our home on Ngahere Street.  It had been our home for 16 years.  It had been a place of safety and security and was full of memories so there were mixed feelings.  We were relieved we were able to move on.  Enable Access came and removed Rory’s ramp.  We are settling into our new home.  We have been unpacking and completing minor repairs.  We have started restoring the riparian margin of the Kurapete Stream which borders our section.  We have enjoyed removing exotic plants (13m3 so far) and planting native species.  It is lovely to see and hear Tui, Kereru, Tauhou Waxeye and Ruru Morepork

We have been planning the next six months of the rehab programme for Rory with OT Dianne and Physio Josh.  It is pretty much status quo.  Acupuncture continues to be a game changer to manage his back pain.  We are keen for Rory to spend more time operating the WHILL to improve his ability to control it competently and safely.  We are still working through the house modifications for Rory with ACC.  It is taking a lot longer than we had hoped.  We are making do in the interim which requires a lot more work for Sean and I to ensure Rory is safe.
