Vulnerability

Everett Park Rory swim Jan 2022

Vulnerability - the quality or state of being exposed to the possibility of being attacked or harmed, either physically or emotionally.  Rory is vulnerable in a way ‘normal’ people are not.  Cancer and its treatment have made him at heighten risk of disease and infection, accidents and being abused.  His perpetual childlike state is evident on occasion.  We are fearful for Rory’s future and in a heightened state of alert.  Rory had funny eyes twice in one day this week, a sore back and a sore arm today after his Covid19 booster jab.  We are watching him closely.  Today we met with Deanna, a potential new Support Carer for Rory.  Good Support Carers are hard to come by so it was exciting to meet her but how we proceed has to be tempered with caution due to Rory’s vulnerability.

The sunny summer days of the school holidays continue to roll on.  Rory has resumed his time with Natasha.  He has developed an interest in board games but it is challenging to find a good fit due to his difficulty with complex tasks and slow processing speed.  Board games are a good activity for Rory to do with his Support Carers during down time and wet days.  I am also conscious there will be days ahead when we are confined to home due to Covid19 in the community.  It is good to be prepared.

Sean has been helping on Uncle Matt and Auntie Vanessa’s farm shifting stock and managing the water supply.  He spent a day in the eastern hill country with Peter and they saw a pair of Karearea, NZ falcon, with two juveniles.  They also pin pointed the nest tree.  This is only the fourth confirmed nest record for Taranaki.  They were both buzzing and it definitely topped my long-tailed cuckoo sighting.  Yesterday we went to Whanganui to retrieve Colt from Grannie Gardiner.  The normal level of noise and activity in our home has been restored!
